4 Haunted Houses Near San Bruno

The Bay Area boasts some of the best haunted houses in California, and San Bruno is ideally located mid-peninsula close to all the spookiest attractions in San Francisco, San Jose, and beyond. Pick out pumpkins in Half Moon Bay, brave the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, and experience terror overload in San Leandro’s Fear Overload Scream Park! Here are four of our favorite Halloween attractions near Oakland in the Bay Area:

  • San Francisco Ghost Hunt: From October 1st all the way up to Halloween night, you can take a short drive up to San Francisco and attend the legendary Ghost Hunt! Four-time winner of the “Best of the Bay” award, this spooky walking tour takes you through the Victorian architecture of Pacific Heights, exploring such attractions as the poltergeist-infested Chambers Mansion, the ghost bride of California Street, and the haunted trees of Mary Ellen Pleasant.
  • Winchester Mystery House:This iconic attraction is one of the famous in the United States, located in San Jose on a beautiful, sprawling estate. Sarah Winchester, the wife of a rifle magnate, built the mansion starting in 1886, with construction continuing all the way until her death in 1922. She believed she was haunted by the angry ghosts of those killed by her husband’s rifles, so she built increasingly bizarre and nonsensical architecture into the house to “appease” them. As such, the mansion is brimming with things like wrong-facing windows and stairways leading nowhere.
  • Arata’s Pumpkin Farm: Located just over the hills in Half Moon Bay, this is a more laid-back attraction that boasts fun for all ages. Children will love the playground, guided pony rides, and petting zoo, while older guests can brave the haunted barn and explore the two-acre Minotaur’s Labyrinth hay maze! And, as the name suggests, you’ll find dozens of varieties of pumpkins in a huge variety of sizes, colors, and shapes.
  • Fear Overload Scream Park:For those looking for serious thrills and chills, look no further than these two terrifying haunted houses, both of which rank among the best haunted houses in California by Forbes magazine. Experience a real-life horror movie with two spine-tingling scenarios: The Demon and Descend the Basement. Both are packed with mazes, monsters, and scares around every corner. And if you can’t make it on Halloween night, have no fear – this attraction runs through November 6th!
